This is where Sibyl lives, in this frightful and dark place. Here, on these mountains, where the stream runs away and dark caves break the rocks. Here is where she lives with animals and mysterious creatures. Sybil is a powerful fairy, the most beautiful queen of the mountains: she can look into the past, the present and the future. She knows the use of medical herbs. Three fairies help her. One day a knight errant, Meschino, decides to go to Sybil to find informationabout his parents. He lost them when he was a little child; now he can't know who they are and where they live.

È qui che vive la Sibilla, in questo luogo oscuro e spaventoso. Qui, su queste montagne, dove scorrono i ruscelli e tenebrose caverne fendono le rocce. Sibyl tells him to know everything about his parents, but she'll give him information only when Meschino will agree to marry her. Sibyl the enchantress offers treasures, luxury, delicious food and the most beautiful and valuable things in the world.

Sibilla gli dice di sapere tutto sui suoi genitori, ma gli darà informazioni solo quando il Meschino accetterà di diventare suo sposo. Sibilla l'incanatrice offre tesori, ricchezze, cibo e ogni cosa più bella e preziosa al mondo.

Her place looks like a paradise, but Meschino meets strange and horrible beasts. Lots of men before had accepted offers by Sibyl, driven by desire for richness and power. They had been deceived and condemned to turn into horrible creatures every week: dragons, snakes, wild wolves and frightful monsters. Now they are telling him the he has not to accept her offers, he must run away.

Il suo palazzo sembra un paradiso, ma Meschino vede strani mostri e bestie spaventose. Molti uomini infatti avevano accettato le offerte di Sibilla spinti dal desiderio di ricchezza e potere. Meschino resists delicious food, big treasures, harp music and enchanting dance. He resists temptation just thinking of God and asking His blessing.

Meschino resiste ai cibi più deliziosi, alle ricchezze più grandi, alla musica dell'arpa e alle danze ammaliatrici. Egli resiste alle offerte d'amore di Sibilla solo pensando a Dio e invocando il Suo aiuto.

After a long year of temptation and troubles, Meschino can leave that bad place. He can carry on his trip around the world looking for his parents. He goes across the Ireland too, there he meets monks and saintly hermits, but nobody of them can help him. At the end Meschino finds the old paretns at Durazzo: they were princes of blue blood, imprisoned by wicked people. He frees them and thanks God for everything.

Dopo un anno di tentazioni e tormenti, Meschino riesce a fuggire da quel mondo malvagio. Continua il suo viaggio alla ricerca dei genitori e passa anche in Irlanda dove incontra monaci e santi eremiti, ma nessuno lo può aiutare. Alla fine, a Durazzo, trova gli anziani genitori: essi erano nobili principi prigioneri di gente malvagia. Meschino li libera e felice ringrazia Dio di ogni cosa.

Ancora oggi i Monti Sibillini vicini ad Ascoli sono famosi per questa leggenda e vengono chiamati "i Mondi delle Fate"
